Education Forward Arizona and Freeport-McMoRan are looking for adventurous individuals who are eager to start a skilled trade program for a new career and to explore possibilities you never knew existed in the mining industry. The scholarship covers an Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificates of Completion in one of several critical technical areas. Individuals selected for this four-semester scholarship must be full-time students and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This scholarship will provide education, training, a paid summer internship and potential job placement with Freeport-McMoRan.

The Guarantee Your Future with Freeport program focuses on select academic pathways offered at designated community colleges across Arizona. This scholarship supports students for up to four semesters as they pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and Certificates of Completion.

Who is Freeport-McMoRan?

Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) is a leading international metals company with headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. The company operates large, long-lived geographically diverse assets with significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum. The portfolio of assets includes mineral districts in Indonesia, North America and South America.

There are nine operational mining sites in Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. The operational sites in rural Arizona are in the towns of Bagdad, Miami, Morenci, Safford, and Sahuarita/Green Valley. The operational sites in Colorado are in Clear Creek and Grand Counties, and the sites in New Mexico are in Grant County.

Freeport-McMoRan is dedicated and committed to supporting individuals who are interested in learning in-demand skills for a career with an international company. This highly competitive program will support students with a full scholarship, at designated community colleges throughout Arizona, the scholarship will cover all education expenses such as Tuition, Fees, and Books. This unique scholarship will also support students with a housing and food stipend up to the Cost of Attendance as identified by the college program. Education Forward Arizona is committed to seeing your success and will provide you with a Success Coach to be your guide along the way. To round out your educational experience, you will also have an opportunity to work at a paid internship in the Summer. If selected for permanent employment, you commit to working for Freeport-McMoRan at an operational mine in Arizona, Colorado, or New Mexico, depending on the available openings.

The ideal candidate for this unique program is someone who is interested in learning new in-demand skills and is willing to go to school at a designated community college in Arizona, Colorado or New Mexico. These new skills will lead to a strong career and the potential for growth with a large international mining company.

Students selected for this opportunity will choose one of the skilled-trades programs offered at the identified community college in Arizona, Colorado or New Mexico. Students commit to successfully completing the program as a fulltime student within two to four academic semesters.

All participants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) upon notification of being accepted in the program. Education Forward Arizona can assist with completing the FAFSA Application.

Students commit to meeting with their assigned Success Coach from Education Forward Arizona at regularly scheduled times.

Students commit to meeting with their Freeport-McMoRan mentor and completing a paid Summer Internship at a location identified by Freeport-McMoRan.

Students who complete the academic requirements, pass pre-employment screening and successfully complete the summer internship may be offered a position for permanent employment. Students commit to work a minimum of three years for Freeport-McMoRan.

• You must pass the Drug Test and medical examination to accept a paid Summer Internship or future employment.

• You must pass a criminal background check.

You must be 18 years of age or older, eligible to enroll in an approved program at a designated Arizona community college.  

You must be able to read, write, and speak English 

You must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions. 

You must pass the Drug Test to accept a paid Summer Internship or future employment. 

You must pass a criminal background check. 

You must pass a physical health examination prior to permanent employment.
