President and CEO

Chevy Humphrey has been president and CEO of Arizona Science Center since 2005. She has accelerated strategic growth—both financially and through high-impact science programming—of the now-200,000 square-foot facility.

Before coming to Arizona Science Center, Humphrey held leadership positions at The Houston Symphony, University of Texas at Austin, University of Houston, and The Phoenix Symphony. Humphrey served as the Chair of the Selection and Annual Review Committee (2005-2011) for what was at the time the National Science Foundation’s largest informal science initiative, called Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE-Net).

Humphrey has an MBA from Northeastern University, with dual specializations in Marketing and Entrepreneurship/Innovation. She has attended advanced management courses at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and Yale University School of Management. She also has received an honorary Doctor of Science and Technology degree from the University of Advancing Technology. She is pursuing her a Doctorate in Business Administration at Grand Canyon University.

In 2017, The Phoenix Business Journal named Humphrey its Mentor of the Year, the first time the award was given. The Phoenix Business Journal also named Humphrey as one of its Most Admired CEOs. She was named a Visionary Leader by the Women’s National Basketball Association and by BBVA Compass. She was selected in the 2001 inaugural class of the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust Fellows, the only non-CEO selected at that time. In 2012, Humphrey was voted by peers as Chair of the Board of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), the first African-American to hold the post. ASTC serves more than 600 science centers in more than 48 countries. In 2017, Humphrey received the Association of Science-Technology’s Chair’s Award for Service, the first time the award was given. Humphrey also serves as a board member and vice chair of the American Alliance of Museums.

Humphrey is a board member for the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute, serves as Treasurer for the Downtown Phoenix Partnership and she serves on the Board of Directors at Grand Canyon Education.
