Jason J. Coochwytewa
CEO
Jason Coochwytewa is Isleta Pueblo and Hopi. He is a seasoned professional with 28 years of expert knowledge in the marketing, communications, and events industry. He is the CEO of Urias Communications, an award-winning Phoenix-based advertising and public relations agency specializing in multicultural markets, providing brand and communication management for a broad range of local, national, and international clients. Before being named CEO in 2021, he spent several years as the chief operating officer, managing the business’s day-to-day operations & budgeting and overseeing staff and client services.
Before joining Urias Communications, Jason spent over a decade as president/owner of Red Note, Inc. – an event-focused business. Under Jason’s leadership, Red Note achieved great success producing and managing a multitude of projects across the country, including large-scale events and concerts for the Super Bowl, America’s 5-day Rock Festival (Sturgis), Dick Clark American Bandstand Music Complex, National Indian Gaming Association, National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, United National Indian Tribal Youth, Phoenix Indian Center, Arizona Indian Gaming Association, ASU’s Construction in Indian Country, and the NABI Foundation – producing the first-ever Native American pow wow in an NFL stadium.
Before Red Note, Jason spent several years as the director of account services and business development for top agencies in Arizona and Nevada, managing marketing, PR, and advertising projects for clients including the Arizona Department of Health Services, Arizona Office of Problem Gambling, the Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona, and Coca-Cola, among others. He was an integral team member in launching a major tribal casino resort property in New Mexico, overseeing brand development and advertising.
Jason earned his Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Arizona State University. He serves on state- wide & national boards, including the Arizona Science Center, Grand Canyon Conservancy, Western National Parks Association, American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Arizona (current board chair), and Arizona Secretary of State’s Business Advisory Council. Jason is a graduate of Valley Leadership, class 26, and is a member of Greater Phoenix Leadership.
Jason has a unique background working with and for Tribes & Nations, Tribal leadership, Native American organizations, and Native American media throughout the United States.
Jason has received distinguished honors and awards from the Phoenix Business Journal and the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development and was recognized as the Outstanding American Indian Man of the Year and the Business of the Year by the Arizona American Indian Excellence in Leadership Awards. The Arizona Diamondbacks also recognized him for his contributions, supporting the club’s launch of Arizona Diamondbacks’ Native American Recognition Day—the first in Major League Baseball.
Jason is a proud father to Zachary and Khloe. He loves supporting their extracurricular activities, including baseball, softball, lacrosse, and horse riding. Jason also enjoys the outdoors, particularly Arizona’s high country, where he likes camping and freshwater fishing. He occasionally plays golf and is a loyal Sun Devils, Diamondbacks, Cardinals, and Suns fan.
