Taking Action for Arizona Students
This year, Education Forward Arizona has been busy advocating support for priorities that advance education attainment, from Pre-K through postsecondary.
School Funding Takes Center Stage
In late February, we were part of a successful effort to give K-12 schools the ability to exceed the Aggregate Expenditure Limit for this school year, which averted a $1.1 billion school funding cut.
Now we’re working to oppose a school funding overhaul the legislature is considering and speaking up for additional resources to support our students who are the most in need. We’ve also been advocating for better ways to support struggling D and F schools by opposing HB2808, which relies on school takeovers, consolidations and closures.
So what should future investments in education look like? How should the state use the funding it has on hand to support education? Read our latest Education Explainer to learn more about what should be included in an education funding proposal and the impact of SB1269.
Bills We’re Supporting
We’ve also been supporting a number of bills this year that:
- Advance early literacy (HB2026)
- Increase STEM funding for Maricopa, Pima and Pinal community colleges (HB2017)
- Support students with disabilities as they transition into a college or university (HB2031)
- Increase opportunities for adults to gain a high school diploma and industry-recognized credential or degree (HB2122)
- And others…
